MOBA/ MUSEUM OF BAD ART (BOSTON)

This choice for the "RCJ Music/ Art's Honour Roll Society" will be to honour and take a peek at what I see as one small but uniquely great art museum located in the Boston (MA) area called the "Museum of Bad Art" (MOBA). I never had the opportunity to visit ... but an old buddy Helen (a small inde artist herself), turned me on to this place after she got back to Dallas from a few dayz in Boston on visit (and this was several year's back too), and shared some of the piece's with me, which I thought were awesome! They call this "bad art" ... heh, heh, heh, heh, heh ... well for me, there isnt any bad art I reckon if this is the case, there are several piece's I only wish I had from this collection in my home! But what a collection! And they certainly belong in this journal's Honour Roll Society, and Thanx so much for putting together this collection for folk's and sharing from all contributor's, Ya'll's devotion and hard work!

  1. Many of these pieces remind me of the most reliable genre of bad art: public art.

While the people who create public art are often quite technically accomplished, any actual meaning it might have might offend some sub-set of the public who are paying for it, and we can't have that, so it ends up being intentionally meaningless. Full of shape and color and fury, signifying nothing -- like most of the works in MOBA.

  2. Infidel ... Well ... different stroke's for different folk's ... of course I love many of them ....

    Thank You for your input

  3. I also may add here, that any/ all art for me (even music) signifies what I choose for it to, not necessarily if the artist meant for it to express that or not, or even what the curator may paint it as, I reckon that it sort of partial or selfish. For instance I have some in my personal collection that mean something completely different to the artist/ composer that created it ... so it's just a matter of what I may personally embrace, as what I want it to represent to me. Kind of like what may be trash to one may be a treasure to another or vice versa, sort of thing I reckon.

  4. I disagree. the MOBA art represents deep meaning with little or no technological accomplishment.

It's public art from the dimension where Spock has a beard.

  6. Being a life long Boston resident you had me curious about all this. I frequented all the museums and my kids loved them. Never heard of the bad museum but actually some of that was pretty good. You should see the stuff Harvard has.

  8. I envy you Jim having been to all the museum's there, and also having been able to visit for "free" all of the original Salem sight's especially!

Thanx for your voice here Jim ... like I said, I am far from a actual critic of the art's, but as you can see in my journal, it's a "love" of mine, why? ... I havent the faintest idea :)

  9. Art is so subjective. What blows ones mind just blows for others.
I happen to dig most art. Andy Warhol to me sucks moose dick, of course for others it's fabulous.

  10. I like quite a bit of that art.

I just felt that Infidel needed a counterweight. :)

  12. Weaseldog/ Jack ... I actually find art in thing's that are not even art (but for me) such as I am fascinated with various cloud formation's ... for me it is an art. You can say I have a wide range of taste's, including in ladies :)

What beautiful weather we been having here in the Metroplex Dude, it has been drop dead gorgeous all damn week, I'm sure you been enjoying! It's 3am and was thinking about just crashing out, but my daughter just walked in the door not long ago with an ice cold 6 pack of Shiner Bock, a few of them should get me relaxed I reckon, eh?

    Later Guy ....

  13. I had fun choosing this particular painting online that now hangs in my downtown office, from Wahooart.com, who sells canvas prints of art masterpieces. While the original is treasured in some art museum in England, my print http://EN.WahooArt.com/A55A04/w.nsf/Opra/BRUE-8LHS4U, of this painting by Edward Burne-Jones is very much appreciated by my staff and clients. The print quality is really excellent.
