JIMMY PAGE/ LED ZEPPELIN (PT.4): "Hot Dog" and "White Summer/ Black Mountain Side" ... (partly inspired by Tim)

This part 4 of Zep will be to highlight a couple ole fav's of mine and a buddy Tim who I knew over 30 years, who partly inspired this posting when I was at his home the other day and he started playing these old songs on one of his guitars while we were messing around playing some music we did over 30 years ago. White Summer/ Black Mountain Side is just some excellent solo piece work by Page, in this one below he is showcasing a Danelectro guitar and really wasted into it, so more of a intimate type performance, that's when you forget that everyone is in the audience and you just sail off into the moment ... really sweet work though from the master (Jimmy), sweet percussion's and just smooth even over rough edges. The first video is just a fun song called Hot Dog, inspired by Texas Swing and rockabilly. I love John Paul Jones honky tonk style piano on this piece too. I hardly ever done any Plant/ Zep vox/ pieces ... I mean for instance, if I cover 'Black Dog' by Zep ... I have to use a range and tone that is more like Brian Johnson of AC/ DC than Robert Plant ... I like to cover Hot Dog though, because I love the vibrato vocal work and using it, just the physical vibration feeling/ sensation you get in your chest from it for one, which also clearly shows Plant's strong influence as well from Elvis Presley. As a matter of fact, when Zeppelin first started jamming as a crew (pre- production era), it was common for them to cover Ricky Nelson and Elvis Presley song's. Tim told me also that Hot Dog was like one of the first pieces/ originals that Page made, I never heard of this before, so Tim went to his bookshelf and handed me a book called "The Rough Guide to Led Zeppelin" and told me to read it. Hot Dog though was released in 1979 (much later). Both of the performance's below are in 1979, one up in Knebworth and one up in Stevenage (both towns just a tad north of the Greater London area UK). But Hot Dog is basically a song about a girl that stole his heart, left him and took all he had ... the rest is history ... Enjoy! {:-)

**** NFL NOTE: Other than that ... ESPN's Monday Night Football just started and Oakland Raiders are at Denver Broncos ... and it look's like it's gonna be a Hot Dog of a game too ... it just started and it's already hot! {:-)
